Our Clothing represents the Valleys, its humour and its history. Each product is designed, printed by hand and shipped out from the Rhondda Valley. We are so proud of our roots, even our Tees are available in only Rhondda Grey.
HOW IT STARTED..
We are born and raised in the Rhondda Valley (Yes we are that lucky mun) We have a background in Art & Design and after several years of working in the big City… We wanted to create a brand that spoke to the people of the Valleys.
BAGSY was born
We started in a one car family garage in 2018 which also contained a car for the first few months. The idea to produce clothing came naturally from our work on the project. At the time we were drawing on carrier bags and leaving them at supermarkets for people to find. We had already created much excitement online and this was picked up by national press and local celebrities.
WHY BAGSY BAGS?
Due to the huge local demand for reuseable cotton bags, we decided to teach ourselves how to Screen Print. It was very important that the product was Made in the Rhondda as much production has sadly left our beautiful valleys. The response to the BAGSY BAGS designs was incredible and they have become a much sought after product. They have been sent all around the world and many people deciding to take them on their travels (and sending us lovely photos that make us so jealous).
WHY DO YOU ONLY DO GREY TEES?
We were asked to create T-shirts of our designs and when we were researching the variety of colours, we thought it would be fitting to only print on to grey tees. This was a homage to the Max Boyce song Rhondda Grey, if you haven’t already heard please do check it out. We then set ourselves the target of finding the most Rhondda of greys to print on.
BUTTY is a term commonly used in the South Wales valleys and it means friend. It was used by Miners to refer to the person they were working with down the coal mine. The term BUTTY means more than a friend that you work with, it is someone you depend on for your own safety.
